Open Arms exists for one simple reason: to feed people living with and affected by chronic illness. Our current service is available to those who deal with the difficulties of an HIV/AIDS, MS, ALS or breast cancer diagnoses. Food is a basic human need. Providing nutritious meals for people living with illness improves the quality of their lives by allowing them to have more energy and to be more productive. At one time or another, most of us have appreciated a meal prepared by a friend or relative when we weren't feeling well. That is the essence of what we do at Open Arms.

CitiWide Harm Reduction has been dedicated to reducing the adverse health, social and economic costs of drugs in New York City since our inception as a syringe exchange program in 1995. In a safe and supportive, participant-led community, we offer a wide variety of outreach, services, and care to homeless and low-income drug users living with and at risk for HIV/AIDS. The work of CitiWide Harm Reduction is grounded in a human rights perspective. We recognize that drug use, HIV/AIDS, and homelessness are inextricably linked to endemic social problems of poverty, racism, gender inequality, and homophobia. Our programs are designed to promote bio-psycho-social wellness in a respectful and nonjudgmental manner and, ultimately, to provide participants the opportunity to develop, establish and reach positive outcomes for themselves.
